An 11-year-old boy with multiple tumors arising from the
peritoneum without an obvious intra-abdominal primary origin is presented.
Surgery and autopsy revealed multiple tumors in the peritoneum with liver
metastases. Histology showed compact nests of small, epithelial-like cells
surrounded by desmoplastic stroma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells
were probably capable of differentiating toward epithelial, neuroectodermal,
and mesenchymal cells. This tumor usually behaves malignantly, with intra-abdominal
seeding and metastases, and responds poorly to chemo- and radiotherapy.
